Ryzhkov Condition Called Serious
MOSCOW — Soviet Prime Minister Nikolai I. Ryzhkov is in serious but stable condition after his heart attack, President Mikhail S. Gorbachev said Thursday.
Gorbachev told Parliament that Ryzhkov, who suffered a heart attack Tuesday night, was getting constant medical care. He added that doctors were satisfied with the prime minister’s condition.
The official Tass news agency quoted Gorbachev as saying Ryzhkov’s condition was serious, “but it has not worsened.”
The president said he spoke to Ryzhkov, once a close political ally but lately a sharp critic of rapid reform, on Wednesday.
Moscow Radio said earlier that Ryzhkov was in worsening condition and his health was giving rise to grave concern.
“We are very worried by Ryzhkov’s worsened condition,” presidential spokesman Vitaly P. Ignatenko was quoted as saying.
