COLLEGE BASKETBALL NATIONAL ROUNDUP : Indiana Wins With an Explosive Knight
A technical foul called early in the first-half against Coach Bob Knight provided Indiana with the push it needed Friday night against Ohio University.
The No. 5 Hoosiers (12-1) harassed the Bobcats (6-4) for 6 1/2 minutes after the technical, and the result was a 19-2 run that produced a 102-64 victory in the championship game of the Hoosier tournament at Indianapolis.
It was the 10th consecutive victory for Indiana, which won its own tournament for the ninth consecutive season.
Calbert Cheaney and Eric Anderson each scored 21 points for Indiana.

ALL-COLLEGE
No. 14 Oklahoma 112, Illinois State 69--The Sooners (9-2) rebounded from last week’s loss to No. 9 Duke by pounding the Redbirds (0-8) in the All-College tournament at Oklahoma City.
The Sooners will play Tulsa, a 92-86 winner over Alabama Birmingham, in the championship game tonight. Reggie Shields scored 30 points to lead Tulsa (6-3).
CABLE CAR
Princeton 67, UC Santa Barbara 51--Sean Jackson scored 18 points to lead the Tigers (8-5) over the Gauchos (4-3) in the Cable Car tournament at Santa Clara.
Princeton plays Santa Clara (8-5), a 75-49 winner over Marist (0-7), in tonight’s championship game.
CONNECTICUT
No. 13 Connecticut 59, Lafayette 57--The Huskies (7-1) made only five of 12 free throws in the final 62 seconds but held off the Leopards (2-6) in the Connecticut Mutual tournament at Hartford, Conn.
Connecticut will play Rhode Island (4-2), an 80-70 winner over William & Mary (5-3), in tonight’s championship game.
EL PASO
Southwest Missouri 68, Washington 61--Darryl Reid scored 10 of his team-high 15 points in the second half, pacing the Bears (9-3) to the victory over the Huskies (1-7) in the Sun Carnival tournament at El Paso, Tex.
The Bears (9-3) will play Texas El Paso, a 57-48 winner over Texas Tech, in tonight’s championship game.
MIAMI (FLA).
No. 6 Ohio State 85, Miami, Ohio 67--In only the third game between the schools, which are located 100 miles apart, Mark Baker scored 18 points to lead the Buckeyes (10-0) over the Redskins (6-5) in the championship game of the Palm Beach tournament at West Palm Beach, Fla.
PENSACOLA
Alabama 71, Towson State 52--Melvin Cheatum scored 23 points as the Crimson Tide (5-3) defeated the Tigers (3-5) in the Blue Angels tournament at Pensacola, Fla.
The Crimson Tide will play North Carolina Charlotte (6-3), a 117-109 winner over Navy, in tonight’s championship game.
RICHMOND
James Madison 90, Va. Commonwealth 78--Billy Coles scored 33 points as the Dukes (4-4) beat the Rams (4-7) in the Times-Dispatch tournament at Richmond, Va.
The Dukes will play Virginia Tech (5-2), an 82-79 winner over Richmond (5-3), in tonight’s championship game.
SUGAR BOWL
Georgia Tech 99, Villanova 87--Sophomore guard Kenny Anderson scored 41 points and Jon Barry had a career-high 29 to lead the Yellow Jackets (7-3) over the Wildcats (6-4) in the championship game of the Sugar Bowl tournament at New Orleans.
SPARTAN
No. 25 Michigan State 97, George Mason 72--Steve Smith scored 25 points as the Spartans (8-3) cruised past the Patriots (2-8) in their tournament at East Lansing, Mich.
The Spartans will play Louisiana Tech (8-3), an 86-81 winner over Coastal Carolina, in tonight’s championship game.
TEMPE
Texas 76, Michigan 74--Guillermo Myers’ slam-dunk follow of a missed free throw with 1:54 left gave the Longhorns (5-3) a 76-73 lead over the Wolverines (6-3) and they held on for the victory in the Tribune tournament at Tempe, Ariz.
Texas will play Arizona State (8-1), a 94-62 winner over Penn (2-4), in the championship.
NONTOURNAMENT
No. 22 Nebraska 85, Idaho 65--Rich King, a 7-foot-2 center, scored 12 points and keyed a run to end the first half that lifted the Cornhuskers (11-1) past the Vandals (5-5) at Lincoln, Neb.
Oregon 73, Western Michigan 64--Guard Terrel Brandon scored 33 points to lead the Ducks (4-5) over the Broncos (3-6) at Eugene, Ore.
Washington State 103, UC San Diego 78--Neil Derrick scored 27 points as the Cougars (6-2) eclipsed 100 points for the third time this season in the victory over the Tritons (8-3) at Pullman, Wash.
