Lakers Will Begin 1991 Season in Paris
The Lakers will open their 1991 exhibition season in Paris Oct. 18-19 as the NBA representative in the McDonald’s Open, the league announced Saturday.
It will be the first time the Lakers have played overseas. One opponent will be the Limoges, France, club team that has former Clipper Michael Brooks and former Bullet Don Collins.
Two other teams will be named later.
This will be the tournament’s fifth edition. No NBA team has lost a game, although the Knicks were taken into overtime by Italy’s Scavolini Pesaro last fall.
It will be the tournament’s first time in France, a weaker basketball market than Spain or Italy. Thus the European promoters reportedly asked for one of the NBA’s glamour teams, the Bulls with Michael Jordan or the Lakers with Magic Johnson.
