Motorcycle Dealership Burns Several Hours After Burglary
A Chatsworth motorcycle shop that had been burglarized a short while earlier suffered $600,000 in damage in a fire early Monday.
The fire at International Motorcycle Co., a Yamaha dealership in the 9500 block of De Soto Avenue, was reported shortly before 4 a.m., Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Greg Acevedo said.
Forty-five firefighters from nine companies extinguished the fire by 4:25 a.m.
Damage was estimated at $100,000 to the one-story commercial building and $500,000 to the contents.
There were no injuries.
Almost three hours before the fire, police responding to an alarm in the building found that it had been burglarized of boots, helmets, computers and an unknown amount of cash, Los Angeles Police Detective Sandra Palmer said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Detectives did not know whether it was related to the burglary.
The motorcycle shop had moved in August from the 7200 block of Canoga Avenue in Canoga Park
