9 Prisoners Use Blankets to Make Their Escape; 6 Remain at Large
DEVORE, Calif. — Nine felony prisoners escaped from a maximum-security facility near here early Tuesday but three were recaptured a few hours later, San Bernardino County authorities said.
A squad of 40 sheriff’s investigators sought the remaining six, who had been jailed on robbery, burglary or narcotics charges at the Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center.
Details on how the men escaped were not released.
The escape was discovered by a jailer reporting for work “who saw blankets hanging from the barbed wire on top of the facility fence,” a sheriff’s spokesman said.
Still at large are:
Kevin Harvey, 20, of Ontario, held for robbery; James White, 21, of San Bernardino, burglary; Earl Humphrey, 43, robbery; Samuel Resendez, 26, of Colton, robbery; Kevin Guines, 27, of Los Angeles, robbery, and Thomas Brannan, 26, of Ontario, narcotics.
