BANGLADESH : Death Toll Reaches 8 in Prison Rioting

Guards at Dhaka Central Jail struggled for a fourth day to force about 5,000 rioting inmates to return to their cells. The riots have spread to prisons in Commilla, Noakhali and Chittigong. At least eight prisoners have been killed and more than 300 guards and inmates have been wounded since the riots erupted Saturday. Col. Abdul Matin, inspector general of prisons, said the inmates were in control of Dhaka Central Jail and were supported by nearby residents who threw food to them.
