Twelve officers of a special narcotics unit were killed in an ambush by Marxist guerrillas, police officials said. They died when a bridge was blown up by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC, as the truck in which they were riding was passing over a river near the Caribbean resort town of Santa Marta, the police said. The FARC launched an offensive Dec. 9 after the army dismantled the group’s main base camps.
