FDA Approves Clotting Agent for Hemophilia: The Food and Drug Administration approved a new clotting agent that causes fewer complications for people with a rare form of hemophilia known as Christmas Disease. The product is an extract of human plasma but is more purified than the clotting preparation now used to treat people with hemophilia B, which afflicts about 2,800 Americans. The manufacturer, Alpha Therapeutics Corp. of Los Angeles, will conduct a post-marketing study to further examine the product, the FDA said.
