San Diego police arrested two men Friday night in connection with the armed robbery of at least one grocery store.

Two men robbed the Big Bear Market in the 9900 block of Mira Mesa Boulevard shortly after 8 p.m., threatening one cashier with a sawed-off shotgun and making off with about $1,000 from three cash registers, police said.

Police said no shots were fired and no one was hurt in the incident, which occurred during business hours.

Half an hour later, police stopped a tan pickup truck in the 3700 block of El Cajon Boulevard that matched the description of the getaway vehicle used in the robbery, police said.

The passenger, Robert Stokes, 26, was taken into custody by officers David Achenbach and Ken Fortier Jr., and the driver, Rodney Tate, 24, fled on foot and was later caught in the 4300 block of Wilson Avenue, police said.

Stokes and Tate were both identified by witnesses to the market robbery in a line-up Friday night, said police spokesman Bill Robinson.

Police are also questioning Stokes and Tate for their possible involvement in a similar armed robbery of a grocery store in the 8800 block of Mira Mesa Boulevard on Dec. 31, Robinson said.
