Harrick Is Hoping That Bruins Don’t Become Mellow in Yellow

Where did those uniforms come from?

“We bought ‘em,” UCLA Coach Jim Harrick said Saturday after the Bruins, dressed in yellow, defeated Louisville, 88-81, at Pauley Pavilion. “I’ve always had three sets--a home and away and a (special) set. I’ve been waiting to find the right color. I like a real light color, and we finally found it. I thought it was time we added it.”

UCLA had always worn white at home.

“Sometimes, there’s no progress without change,” former coach John Wooden said of the new uniforms, “but not all change is progress.”

UCLA will wear yellow “periodically,” Harrick said.

Most of the players seemed to like the new uniforms, but junior forward Don MacLean seemed to prefer the more traditional white. When it was suggested to him that it looked as if the Bruins were trying to emulate USC, MacLean said: “That’ll be the day when we try to emulate USC.”
