The Sidelines : Kings’ Goalie Is Player of Week

Goaltender Daniel Berthiaume of the Kings, who compiled a 2.00 goals-against average in helping his team to three straight road victories, was named the National Hockey League player of the week today for the period ending Jan. 6.

Berthiaume started the week by beating the Minnesota North Stars, the team that traded him to Los Angeles last September. The score of the Dec. 31 game was 4-2.

Against the Islanders in New York on Jan. 3, Berthiaume made 30 saves in a 6-3 win. He ended the week with a 17-save performance in Chicago on Sunday night, where the Kings were 3-1 winners. (Story, C-1.) The three victories raised Berthiaume’s season record to 13-5-0.
