Court Building Hit by Partial Power Outage
The downtown Criminal Courts Building was hit by a partial power outage Monday that left many courtrooms functioning in near darkness. The problem left the western side of the 19-story landmark at 210 W. Temple St. with only emergency lights.
Hallways west of the elevators in the center of the building were lit only by one or two fluorescent lights. Courtrooms on the darkened side functioned on one or two fluorescents and the trio of spotlights aimed at the judge’s bench.
Electrical outlets were unaffected, as was the building’s computer system and elevators. The eastern side of the building apparently was unaffected. At the bailiff’s office, sheriff’s deputies did their work by the light of two desk lamps.
Deputy Jeanne Ramirez said the prisoner lockups on the darkened side of the building were operating on emergency power, but that “we’re functioning.”
