Carbon Monoxide Victim Comes Out of His Coma in S.D.
SAN DIEGO — A Canadian college volleyball player who nearly died from carbon-monoxide fumes that killed his roommate in their hotel room has come out of his coma, hospital officials said.
Though he’s weak and speaks slowly, Henry Wong “made dramatic improvement” Monday and fed himself for the first time since the New Year’s Day accident, UC San Diego Medical Center neurologist Patrick Lyden said.
Wong’s condition was upgraded from serious to fair after a neurological examination in which he tested normal in motor function, sensation, coordination, vision and hearing, Lyden said.
Wong, 20, of Alberta, Canada, had been in a coma and on a respirator since the accident.
