Defanging Hussein
President Bush is confronted now by a military situation similar to the one faced by President Truman in August, 1945: Many well-entrenched, experienced soldiers to be attacked and defeated. Are we (as one military analyst recently said) to “attack the porcupine quill by quill?” Or are we to deliver one or two devastating nuclear blows? Is President Bush to have the same regard for the lives of American volunteers that President Truman had for the lives of American conscripts?
What may not become another Vietnam may become another Hiroshima. This is our dilemma if we stay on the warpath.
