Ventura recycling coordinator Steve Chase announced Monday that the city’s recycling center pocketed more than $29,000 in its first two months of operation and attracted business from Oxnard, Fillmore, Camarillo and Thousand Oaks.

In an oral report to the City Council, Chase said that since the center opened in August, it has processed 4,000 tons of recyclable material and is now processing 42 tons a day from other cities.

“The success of the city’s recycling program continues,” Chase told the council.

Chase said the city had earned $29,090 in August and September. Since then, Chase said, Ventura has stepped up its tonnage totals by adding 6,300 multifamily residences and more than 600 businesses to its curbside recycling program.
