High School Student Shot After Argument
An 18-year-old Verdugo Hills High School student was shot in the leg Wednesday after an argument with four men outside the school, Los Angeles police said.
The student, Horacio Vepiz, was treated at Pacifica Hospital of the Valley and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police said Vepiz was walking near the school in the 10000 block of Plainview Avenue about 2:30 p.m. when he was approached by four men and an argument broke out.
One of the men pulled a .22-caliber rifle and fired eight rounds at Vepiz, striking him once in the leg, then fled with the others in a late-model burgundy Monte Carlo.
Police did not know the motive for the shooting, but said it did not appear to be gang-related.
