Broderick Cup Goes to Suzy Favor

Suzy Favor of the University of Wisconsin, NCAA champion in the 1,500 meters the last four years, was named winner of the Honda-Broderick Cup, awarded annually to the collegiate female athlete of the year, at a dinner before a crowd of 1,000 here Wednesday night.

Previously honored as the Big Ten athlete of the year and the Jesse Owens female athlete of the year, Favor was selected from 14 finalists, each representing the best in the country in her sport.

Other finalists included Jennifer Azzi of Stanford in basketball, Jill Andrews of UCLA in gymnastics, Tara Cross of Long Beach in volleyball, Janet Evans of Stanford in swimming, Debbie Graham of Stanford in tennis, Michiko Hattori of Texas in golf, Shannon Higgins of North Carolina in soccer, Vicki Huber of Villanova in cross country, Lisa Longaker of UCLA in softball, Leslie Lyness of North Carolina in field hockey, Crystal Hardy of Delta State in Division II, Yvonne Grierson of Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Division III and Jill Robertson of Montclair State, a track and field participant and the Inspiration Award recipient.
