Pickup Hits Boy, 7, Riding His Bicycle
HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 7-year-old boy was in critical condition Thursday night after he was hit by a pickup truck while riding his bicycle, police said.
Christian Avina of Huntington Beach was apparently riding his bicycle from an alley onto a residential street when he was struck by a pickup that was westbound on Liberty Avenue about 4 p.m.
It was unclear how fast the truck was going, police said.
The boy was treated at the scene by paramedics for a skull fracture and facial cuts and was flown by helicopter to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was listed in critical condition in the pediatric intensive-care unit, police said.
The driver of the Toyota pickup was not injured and was not cited pending the outcome of an investigation, police said.
