SOCCER ROUNDUP : Late Goal by Donohue Gives Mater Dei 1-0 Victory

Kim Donohue scored a goal with 24 seconds remaining to give Mater Dei a 1-0 victory over Santa Margarita in an Angelus League girls’ soccer game Thursday at Santa Margarita.

Mater Dei, the No. 4 team in the Southern Section 4-A poll, improved to 12-3-2, 2-0 in league. Santa Margarita dropped to 3-10-1, 0-2.

Mater Dei goalie Becky Thomas had six saves and Santa Margarita goalie Char Naughton had 12.

In another Angelus League game:

Rosary 1, Bishop Amat 0--Andrea Barclay scored in the 65th minute for Rosary (9-2-3, 2-0) at Chapman Park. Helen Baron had six saves for Rosary and Leia Casteneda had 11 for Bishop Amat.

In the Century League:

El Modena 5, Santa Ana Valley 0--Jennifer Porter and Amy Moreno each scored twice and Molly Schulman once for visiting El Modena (5-6-1, 1-1).

Villa Park 0, Foothill 0--Amy Lewis had 10 saves for host Villa Park (3-5-4, 1-0-1).

In the Empire League:

El Dorado 4, Katella 0--Briana Yoshina scored three goals and Janiz Cieslak scored one for visiting El Dorado (10-2-4, 1-0).

In the Freeway League:

Sunny Hills 3, Sonora 0--Heidi Gugler scored twice and Rhonda Partida scored once for Sunny Hills (12-0-1, 2-0). Sonora is 4-5-2, 0-1-1. Sunny Hills’ Shannan Brown had seven saves for her 10th shutout this season.

In the Garden Grove League:

La Quinta 6, Garden Grove 0--Cheryl Jones scored four goals to lead the Aztecs (3-5, 2-0) at La Quinta. Stefanie Stucker scored two for La Quinta.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Trabuco Hills 3, Laguna Hills 1--Kristen Lowery scored twice and Christy Lunceford scored once for host Trabuco Hills (9-3-2, 2-0). Lisa Seniello scored for Laguna Hills (3-7-1, 1-1). Rima Saba had 21 saves for Laguna Hills. Shannon Pickett had six saves for Trabuco Hills.

Estancia 12, Century 0--Danielle Straub and Taia Newland each scored two goals as 10 players scored for the Eagles (9-2-2, 2-0).

In the Olympic League:

Capistrano Valley Christian 4, St. Margaret’s 2--Katie Bell, Shannon Jacobson, Erika Moore and Erin Davenport scored in the second half as Capistrano Valley Christian (5-2-1, 2-1-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit at halftime.

In the Orange League:

Valencia 3, Western 0--Jennifer Heffner, Janine Kido and Michelle Lytle each scored and Lytle, Kristina Yoseloff and Kristin Walker each had an assist for visiting Valencia (6-9, 2-0).

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 3, Woodbridge 1--Lisa Boatman, Stefanie Hughes and Carolyn Dailey scored for the Sea Kings (6-5-1, 2-0) at Corona del Mar.

University 3, Newport Harbor 1--Shana Novegrod had two goals and Kristen Pope had one for visiting University (5-4-5, 1-0-1). Genevieve DeGiallande scored for Newport Harbor.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 4, Ocean View 1--Maili Williams, Jennifer Crispin, Jill Krzenski and Jeanine Martin scored for host Edison (9-2-5, 2-0). Joline Lewis scored for Ocean View.

Huntington Beach 1, Westminster 0--April Crosby scored three minutes into the game for host Huntington Beach (5-4-2, 1-1). Shelley Vinci had 12 saves for Westminster.

In South Coast League boys’ soccer:

El Toro 2, Dana Hills 1--Iain Doleman scored three minutes into the second half for host El Toro (4-2-1, 1-0) to break a 1-1 tie. Fernando Castellanos scored 20 minutes into the game for Dana Hills and Jair Gonzales tied the score for El Toro 11 minutes later. Joseph Hamil had 10 saves for Dana Hills and Dan Jacobs had six saves for El Toro.
