Marina Ends Losing String at Ocean View
HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Marina High School girls’ basketball team ended a six-game losing streak at Ocean View by defeating the Seahawks, 48-47, Thursday night.
“I’ve never won in this gym before,” Marina Coach Pete Bonny said. “It was time to change the tide.”
Marina (12-4) remains undefeated after three Sunset League games.
Ocean View (10-7, 2-2) took a 42-37 lead on Kristin Brun’s three-point play with 6:28 remaining, but Jessica Trippet and Colleen Hatch took control inside and Marina took a 43-42 lead with 3:54 remaining.
Leslie Ono’s layup off the fast break with 1:05 left gave the Vikings a 47-45 lead and Gilliam Bean’s free throw made it 48-45 with 22 seconds left before Tracy Lu’s basket for Ocean View with six seconds left.
