THE SIDELINES : Schneider Wins Giant Slalom

KRANJSKA GORA, Yugoslavia — Vreni Schneider skied to her first World Cup victory this season today, winning the women’s giant slalom.
Schneider, the 1989 overall World Cup winner from Switzerland, flashed down the icy Vitranc track with a winning aggregate of 2 minutes, 11.66 seconds.
A surprising second was Natasa Bokal of Yugoslavia, who surged from eighth place after the first heat. She was clocked in 2:12.77 overall.
