It all started with a fox. “We’d done a show about the Big Bad Wolf and kicked around the idea of a fox,” said Raun Yankovich, director of the Golden State Children’s Theatre. “Then we came up with the idea of incorporating magic tricks into a musical, creating a musical magic show.” The result was “The Magic Fox,” which receives its world premiere today at 1 and 4 p.m. at the Norris Theatre for the Performing Arts in Rolling Hills Estates.
With 14 songs and a cast of nine, the show follows the adventures of Finnigan Flanagan Fox as he encounters an evil sorceress, a handsome prince, a dancing unicorn, a mermaid and a green, fire-breathing dragon.
“We have a sort of ‘feel good about yourself, believe in yourself’ theme to it,” said Yankovich, adding that the group’s philosophy is that “theater should educate as well as entertain, but with a very light touch.”
Formed last June, the children’s theater company is based at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. The Norris is presenting “The Magic Fox” as part of its Children’s Series. Tickets are $9 and may be purchased at the theater, Crossfield Drive and Indian Peak Road.
