Gov. Wilson Takes Office

The governor states after after she pays the rent, an AFCD (Aid to Families With Dependent Children) mother will not have money to buy a “six-pack of beer” after his cutbacks in welfare payments. At present a mother with one child receives $560 a month. After she pays the rent, she must still pay for utilities, telephone, transportation, clothing, toys and, occasionally, a piece of furniture. Will an AFCD mother be able to survive after his cutback? Will her child?

Already one-fourth of our nation’s children are living below the poverty line. Personally, I would be willing to pay higher taxes to give these children a chance to live a decent life.
