NATION : Kidnaped Businessman Freed
TAMPA, Fla. — More than 42 hours after being abducted from his driveway, millionaire rancher and philanthropist Bob Thomas returned home in a taxi today, tired but unhurt, federal agents said.
FBI agents waited to interview the 66-year-old polio victim, who requires crutches to walk, until he had rested. They refused to release any details about how Thomas apparently obtained his freedom without help from the law enforcement agencies searching for him.
FBI agents were looking for three men.
Thomas was jumped by two men as he left his home for church at 6:30 a.m. Monday and was whisked away in a van. He called his wife, Suzanne, at 12:30 a.m. today from a pay phone at a north Tampa shopping center.
The retired rancher-businessman arrived at his home in a taxi at 1:10 a.m. He was checked by a physician who pronounced him in good health.
