‘Storm’ Signs : As Front Heats Up, Vendors Say Public Is Mapping the Mideast and Unfurling American Flags
MILWAUKEE — Sales of American flags picked up after U.S.-led bombing began against Iraq.
James Kowalewski, marketing director at Eder Flag Manufacturing Co. in suburban Oak Creek, said orders Thursday for the flags of many countries included 45,000 American flags requested by a drug store chain in Rome, N.Y.
“Our phones are ringing off the hook,” Kowalewski said. “We’ve sold hundreds of thousands of flags. We can’t write the orders fast enough.”
The company sells flags representing 208 nations. Kowalewski said he is getting orders for the flags of France, Saudi Arabia, Britain and other nations allied against Iraq but that American flags are outselling the others 20 to 1.
