HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Agoura Knocks Off Channel Islands, 89-87
Eddie Corridori sank two of his 33 points from the free-throw line with three seconds to play to give host Agoura High an 89-87 Marmonte League upset win over Channel Islands on Friday night.
Channel Islands’ Stephane Brown scored 47 points, including 28 in the first half. Channel Islands (13-4, 4-2) brought a 74-71 lead into the fourth quarter, but was limited to just 13 thereafter. The teams stayed close throughout the game and Agoura held a 52-49 halftime lead.
Corridori also had nine rebounds. Charger guard Sean Martin, who averages 26.4 points, was held to 13 but he contributed 11 rebounds and seven assists.
Dennis Fowler added 19 points for Agoura (9-6, 3-3). Marlowe Durmiendo had 18 points for Channel Islands.
In other boys’ games:
Thousand Oaks 80, Simi Valley 65--Chris Loll scored 25 points and added seven steals and six blocked shots to lead Thousand Oaks (14-3, 5-2) past visiting Simi Valley (8-10, 3-4) in a Marmonte League game. Scott Peterson added 11 points and eight assists for the Lancers. Michael Crawford led Simi Valley with 17 points.
Royal 71, Westlake 66--Greg Gray scored a team-high 14 points and handed out nine assists to pace the host Highlanders (12-7, 3-4) to a Marmonte League win over Westlake (5-11, 2-5).
Camarillo 84, Newbury Park 56--David Harbour scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Scorpions past the Panthers (5-10, 1-6) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Santa Clara 70, Santa Paula 49--Art Barron scored 24 points and had nine assists and Stevie Amar added 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Santa Clara at home in a Frontier League game. The Saints (17-4, 4-0) outscored Santa Paula, 43-20, in the second half and forced 17 turnovers.
Notre Dame 85, Chaminade 55--Bob DaCorsi scored 27 points and G. C. Marcaccini added 19 off the bench to lead first-place Notre Dame (16-3, 7-0) in a Mission League game.
Crespi 69, Bishop Montgomery 56--John Curtin scored 17 of his game-high 26 points in the second half to help the Celts (7-11, 1-6) end a seven-game losing streak. Rasaan Hall, who returned from a two-game suspension, scored 20 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the Mission League game at Crespi.
St. Bernard 84, Alemany 69--Will Burr scored a game-high 27 points and teammate Richard Dice added 20, but the Indians (7-12, 2-5) lost the Mission League game to St. Bernard (11-9, 7-1) at Alemany.
Antelope Valley 56, Palmdale 52--Raynell Dunbar scored 20 points to lead Antelope Valley (11-8, 2-3) in a Golden League game. Jason Grimes had 16 points for Palmdale (11-8, 2-3).
Hart 55, San Gabriel 46--Keith Halcovich scored 18 points to lead the Indians (13-5, 4-0) in a Foothill League game at Hart.
Hoover 69, Arcadia 63--Junior guard Dave Ulloa matched a career high with 35 points in a Pacific League game against visiting Hoover (6-11, 1-3). Ulloa scored 25 points in the second half to help Hoover overcome a 10-point halftime deficit. He made seven three-point shots to tie a career high and was 12 of 20 from the field.
Pasadena 66, Glendale 59--Jerry Armen scored a game-high 22 points for the Dynamiters (11-7, 2-2) but Glendale lost at home in a Pacific League game.
Montclair Prep 79, Village Christian 40--Chris Sanger had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead Montclair Prep (14-2, 4-0) in the Alpha League game at Village Christian.
Faith Baptist 64, Bel Air Prep 51--Center Peter Rasmussen scored 14 of his game-high 27 and made eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to lead the Contenders (11-5, 2-2) in a Delphic League game.
Bell-Jeff 63, La Salle 57--Damien Scott, Bryan Camacho and Ignacio Castro each scored 13 points apiece for Bell-Jeff (9-9, 3-2) in a home San Fernando Valley League game.
Providence 70, Oakwood 62--Senior center Chris Jones scored 20 points to lead the Pioneers (9-9, 2-1) in a Liberty League game at Providence.
Holy Martyrs 79, Windward 40--Holy Martyrs had 20 steals in the game and built a 51-13 halftime lead. Arman Agdayan scored 18 points had 10 assists and six steals for Holy Martyrs (6-7, 3-1) in the home Liberty League game.
El Camino Real 71, Reseda 63--Kalin Green scored 17 points and Sam Sarpong added 14 as El Camino Real (8-7, 1-4) upset Reseda in a West Valley League game at Reseda. Markee Brown and Jaffers Bailey added 12 each. Marquis Burns scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Reseda (7-8, 2-4). Eight players--four on each team--scored in double figures.
Chatsworth 58, San Fernando 49--J.P. Labrador scored 14 of his game-high 21 points and made 10 of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Chancellors (5-9, 1-0) in a West Valley League game at Chatsworth.
Grant 70, Sherman Oaks CES 35--Grant made its first three shots, all three-point shots, to open a 9-1 lead in the East Valley League game at home and stretched its conference winning streak to 26 games over three seasons.
Grant’s Eric Brown made five three-point shots and scored 15 points. Tyler Butland (12 points) and Wayne Carlisle (11 points) helped off the bench for Grant (13-2, 7-0).
Poly 49, Sylmar 42--Steve McCann scored 13 points and Arnold Beck added 11 off the bench to help the Parrots (4-9, 4-3) in an East Valley League game at Poly.
Fremont 106, Canoga Park 56--Canoga Park led, 6-5, halfway through the first quarter but the Pathfinders switched to a full-court press and outscored the Hunters, 23-4, over the next four minutes at Fremont. Chris Ford, who has signed with UC Santa Barbara, scored a game-high 34 points to lead Fremont (20-1).
Lindsey Dunbar paced Canoga Park (7-12) with 12 points and eight assists.
GIRLS
San Gabriel 51, Hart 36--San Gabriel snapped Hart’s 23-game Foothill League win streak at home. Merritt Pavichevich scored 17 points for San Gabriel (15-1, 3-1). For Hart (16-4, 3-1), Shannon Martin had nine points and 15 rebounds and Anjanette Dionne scored 15 points and six assists.
Glendale 58, Pasadena 46--Jenny Dalton scored a career-high 34 points, including 24 in the second half, to lead visiting Glendale (12-5, 4-0) to a Pacific League victory.
North Hollywood 63, South Gate 43--All but one of North Hollywood’s 12 players scored in a nonconference win at home. North Hollywood’s Jacinda Sweet scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds despite limited playing time. Suzi Shimoyama had nine assists for North Hollywood (16-3).
Van Nuys 55, Locke 38--Senior forward JoAnne Harry scored a season-high 22 points and added 10 rebounds to lead Van Nuys (15-4) in a nonleague game at home. Junior center Cicely Brewster scored 14 points and had 18 rebounds, and senior guard Huong Thai added 10 points and five assists for the Wolves.
Taft 52, Granada Hills 51--Junior guard Alissa Tishler sank two free throws with 29 seconds left to ice the win at home for Taft (8-4, 3-2). Tishler scored six points but added 12 steals and seven assists. Sandra Perez had eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds, and Julie Kawamoto added 11 points for Taft, which converted 16 of 18 free-throw attempts.
