Aztec Football Team Gets 4 Commitments
The San Diego State football team has received oral commitments from four high school players, three of whom were all-state selections.
The players are Chad Finch, an offensive tackle from Ramona High School in Riverside; Ray Peterson, a wide receiver from Walker High in New Orleans; Mike Burns, a linebacker from Esperanza High in Anaheim; and Julian Ford, a linebacker-tight end from Trabuco Hills High in Mission Viejo. Finch, Peterson and Burns were all-state selections.
Finch, 6-feet-6, 270 pounds, played on the offensive line, defensive line and special teams for Ramona. He was recruited by USC, Arizona and Arizona State, among others, but chose SDSU because of its dyslexia program.
“He’s a big, physical kid who played every down of every game,” Ramona Coach Myron Miller said. “He just has a problem with reading . . . I guess SDSU has one of the top programs for helping kids with that problem.”
Finch has already fulfilled eligibility requirements with results from his Scholastic Aptitude Test.
Peterson, 5-8, 175, caught 32 passes for 478 yards and six touchdowns last season and was recruited by Louisiana State and Oklahoma. The New Orleans Times-Picayune picked him as one of the top 15 prospects in Louisiana.
Burns, 6-3, 230, was recruited by Oregon, Washington and Washington State. Ford, 6-3, 215, caught more than 40 passes in each of his three seasons.
