NBA ROUNDUP : Richardson Leads Timberwolves Over Warriors

Pooh Richardson scored a career-high 35 points and Gerald Glass made a three-point play with 32 seconds left to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves past the Golden State Warriors, 121-113, Saturday night at Minneapolis.

The defeat ended Golden State’s four-game road winning streak. The Warriors were playing for the fourth time in five nights, all on the road.

The Timberwolves, who led by 16 points in the third quarter, saw the Warriors get to within 112-111 on Mitch Richmond’s three-point play in the final minute.

It was 114-111 when Tyrone Corbin rebounded a Warrior miss and passed to Glass for a layup. The rookie was fouled by Tim Hardaway and made the free throw for a 117-111 advantage.

Minnesota, which had lost to the Warriors four times in a row dating to last season, has won four of its past five games.

Chris Mullin and Richmond scored 26 points each for the Warriors. Corbin had 23 for Minnesota.

Sacramento 101, Phoenix 97--Rory Sparrow made five free throws in the final 21 seconds at Sacramento and the Kings snapped a seven-game losing streak against the Suns.

Four free throws by Sparrow gave Sacramento a 100-94 lead, and after Jeff Hornacek made a three-point basket for Phoenix with three seconds left, Sparrow made one of two.

Antoine Carr scored 25 points and Travis Mays had 20 for the Kings. Tom Chambers had 23 for Phoenix.

New York 112, Philadelphia 97--Patrick Ewing had 25 points and 11 rebounds and Charles Oakley scored 24 points as the Knicks snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating the 76ers at Philadelphia.

Philadelphia, playing its third game without Charles Barkley, out with a sore right ankle, lost for the eighth time in 11 games.

Hersey Hawkins scored 35 points for the 76ers. Kiki Vandeweghe added 22 points for New York.

Indiana 117, Utah 104--Michael Williams scored 28 points, including four free throws in the closing minutes, leading the Pacers past the Jazz at Indianapolis.

Utah, which trailed by 16 points in the third quarter, pulled to within 106-100 on Karl Malone’s three-point play with 2:25 left, but Detlef Schrempf hit five of six free throws and Williams didn’t miss on four tries in the final minutes.

Malone scored 28 points, John Stockton added 25 and Jeff Malone had 24. Reggie Miller scored 22 points for Indiana.

San Antonio 117, Denver 108--David Robinson had 28 points and 19 rebounds as the Spurs beat the Nuggets at Denver.

With the victory, the Spurs preserved their distinction as the only NBA team that hasn’t lost consecutive games this season.

Denver closed to 106-105 on a basket and free throw by Michael Adams, who had 27 points and 11 assists, but San Antonio scored 11 of the last 14 points.

Dallas 110, Charlotte 95--Alex English scored 23 points and the Mavericks snapped a five-game losing streak by defeating the Hornets at Dallas.

Johnny Newman scored 40 points for the Hornets, tying a club record achieved three times by Kelly Tripucka.

Atlanta 114, New Jersey 84--Kevin Willis had 24 points and 17 rebounds and Dominique Wilkins scored 22 points as the Hawks overwhelmed the Nets at Atlanta for their 13th consecutive homecourt victory.

Chris Morris scored 20 for the Nets.

Seattle 111, Washington 89--Olden Polynice made 12 of 15 shots and scored 27 points as the SuperSonics routed the Bullets at Seattle.

Harvey Grant scored 19 points for the Bullets, who lost three of four on their Western trip. Washington came no closer than 16 points in the fourth quarter.
