World IN BRIEF : PERU : ‘Shining Path’ Raids Kill 27 in 2 Villages

Two guerrilla raids in the southern Andes left at least 27 people dead, Lima’s main radio station reported. Radioprogramas quoted the joint military command as saying about 100 troops of the Maoist Shining Path rebels attacked the remote village of Carhauhuaran and shot to death the mayor and 22 farmers. Rebel troops also attacked the Katanga mining settlement.
