Marc Girardelli won the men’s slalom as the World Alpine Ski Championships opened at Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria. Girardelli, an Austrian who skis for Luxembourg, defeated runner-up Thomas Stangassinger of Austria by more than a half-second.
