You’ve come a long way, dolly.

In the 1880s, the master doll makers of Paris handcrafted their creations of the finest porcelain, dressing them in the era’s colorful, gaudy fashions.

About 70 years later, the first plastic Barbies emerged from molds in Mattel factories in Nuclear Age America.

Thousands of dolls from both eras--and all of the periods in between--will be displayed and sold by more than 50 collectors and dealers at the “Charms of Yesteryear” Doll & Toy Show & Sale at the Pasadena Elk’s Lodge on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Verdugo Hills Doll Club.

Joining the dolls on display will be vintage teddy

bears, toy soldiers and other items that have delighted children for 100 years.

Pam Kandel, publicity chairwoman for the club, said novice doll watchers should keep their eyes open for collectors’ items that may appear: Works from the 1880s French doll makers Jumeaux and Bru are among the most valuable.

Also, ‘30s-era Shirley Temple dolls made by the Ideal toy company are considered rarities. And, of course, Barbie dolls of the ‘50s and ‘60s are prized by connoisseurs.

Admission is $2.50. Children under 12 may enter free if accompanied by an adult. Some proceeds from the event will go to charity.
