MOORPARK : 2 Firms Awarded Refuse Contract
Moorpark will award its refuse collection to two local trash companies in an agreement that raises some residents’ rates and sets aside part of the collection fee to fund a curbside recycling program.
The Moorpark City Council awarded five-year franchise agreements Wednesday to G.I. Rubbish and Moorpark Disposal.
Rates for multifamily residences, such as condominiums and townhouses, will increase by about 9% while single-family monthly rates will remain at $15.35 for 1991. Of that amount, $1.35 is earmarked for recycling. An additional 4% of the total will go back to the city, generating about $35,000 a year for Moorpark’s overall program to reduce waste.
Also, the agreement will limit pickup to four cans per household but will provide each residence within 60 days with a 34-gallon covered wheeled container for recyclables.
