VENTURA : Unemployment Rate in County Dropped to 6.9%
The county unemployment rate dropped to 6.9% in December--still slightly higher than the state average--and 2 percentage points higher than December of last year, state officials announced Friday.
Economic experts say the drop in unemployment from 7.6% in November is due to a seasonal fluctuation in the labor market and does not signal a recovery in the slumping economy.
“There usually is an increase in job employment during the Christmas season,” said Mike Rosky, research analyst for the state Employment Development Department.
The state of California averaged a 6.6% unemployment rate, compared to 6.5% in November, Rosky said.
