A Super Street in Yorba Linda
For those of us who were either still recovering from the holidays or out of town on Jan. 3, we were almost hoodwinked by our (Yorba Linda) City Council! Supposedly we were all to have heard about the “super-street” issue through a city newspaper, but the street I live on has not received an issue for months.
Fortunately, an anonymous good Samaritan distributed flyers to local businesses and managed to draw approximately 200 concerned citizens.
Just in the nick of time, a plan to turn Imperial Highway into a six- to eight-lane “super street” was temporarily put on hold. Thank goodness we had one councilman who opposed the super street: Henry Wedaa!
I moved to Southern California in 1971 and bought a house in Placentia, but from the moment I visited Yorba Linda, I wanted to live here. That was accomplished in 1975. I love the rural atmosphere here, (which is) unlike any other city in Orange County. I wouldn’t consider living anywhere else.
My opinions and feelings are not those of a minority in this city. My friends and neighbors feel the same way. And, even though I live in “old Yorba Linda,” I understand that our neighbors in East Yorba Linda have recently fought such things as the opening of a carwash and even a supermarket, fearing that their part of town will become too crowded. Watch out, guys! You haven’t seen anything yet!
An organization to fight the super street is being formed. I urge citizens to show their support by contacting Henry Wedaa. Then, plan to keep a night free for future City Council meetings.
