Sheriff’s deputies on Sunday were seeking a resident alien of Iraqi descent who is suspected of murdering one teen-ager and wounding another at a party in La Mesa late Saturday night.

Officials said there was no evidence that the incident was motivated by race, religion, national origin or politics.

According to Lt. John Tenwolde, Nadir Jamil Mikhail, 20, was summoned to the party in the 11300 block of Explorer Road just before midnight Saturday by a friend, Diah Asker.

Asker apparently told Mikhail that the teen-age hosts, who held the party while their parents were away, needed help persuading some unwanted guests to leave.

When Mikhail arrived at the party with another unidentified friend, he allegedly confronted several people on the front lawn with a semi-automatic pistol. He fired several shots and fled with the unidentified friend, Tenwolde said.

Robbie Loftus, a 19-year-old from Lemon Grove, was hit once in the head and later died at Sharp Memorial Hospital. Two bullets struck Charles Hall, 19, a student from Spring Valley, in the leg and arm. He remained at Sharp Memorial Hospital on Sunday night.
