FULLERTON : Mentoring Black Students Is Topic
Promoting educational success is the focus of a special conference next week for black students and their parents at Cal State Fullerton.
The Feb. 9 conference will offer a series of workshops designed for parents, school-age youngsters, college-bound students and anyone interested in becoming a mentor to black students. Workshops will cover financial aid, admission requirements for college, how parents can help their children academically, and cultural diversity.
Charles White, a former running back for the Los Angeles Rams and winner of the Heisman Trophy while he was at USC, will be keynote speaker.
The free, five-hour conference will begin at 8 a.m. at Cal State Fullerton’s Ruby Gerontology Center. It is being sponsored by the university’s Mentoring Network Program for Black Student Success.
Lunch is available for those who register in advance. To request registration forms or more information, call the University Outreach office at (714) 773-2086.
