San Marino : Estate Zone Established

The City Council Monday voted 5 to 0 to create a residential estate zone that will preserve the city’s prestigious northwest area.

Following the recommendation of the Planning Commission last week , new lots must now be at least 60,000 square feet--almost 1 1/2 acres--in the area bounded by Rosalind Road and a portion of Oak Grove Avenue on the south, the Huntington Botanical Gardens on the east and city limits on the north and west. The previous lot size minimum was 30,000 square feet.

Members of the audience praised the city for its action, and Mayor Suzanne Crowell said, “I’m happy to see that the citizens of San Marino want to keep the city as it is.”
