A Piru youth was in custody at Ventura County Juvenile Hall on Thursday after his arrest on suspicion of battery, cruelty to animals and violation of probation.

The 13-year-old boy reportedly attacked his mother during an argument Wednesday morning and threw various objects at her, including the family’s pet Chihuahua dog. A hearing has been set for Monday.

Lt. Dick Purnell of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department substation in Fillmore said the boy’s mother reported the incident at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The department’s report said the boy and his mother had been arguing about his refusal to go to school.

The mother told authorities that the argument became violent when she insisted that the boy get out of bed.

He grabbed her by the hair and threw a purse at her, striking her head, the report said.

The woman told authorities that after the boy threw the dog at her, she tried to lock him out of the house.

He re-entered the house by a window to pick up some of his belongings, and threatened his mother further before leaving, she told authorities.

She reported bruises and a sore scalp, but the dog was unhurt. The woman said her son was on probation for previous incidents of violence against her.
