THE GULF WAR: The Battle Front : LAV-25
In the ground fighting near Khafji this week, the Marines reported losing at least two of their lightly armored vehicles. The LAV-25 is an 8-wheel, 15-ton lightly armored vehicle that carries a crew of three and six troops. It was developed specifically for the U.S. Marine Corps and is equipped with a 25-mm cannon. By contrast, the Army’s Bradley troop carrier, weighing 25 tons, carries nine soldiers. Speed: 62 m.p.h. Range: 410 miles Cross trenches up to: 6 ft. 9 in. wide Amphibious speed: 6.2 m.p.h.
