THE SIDELINES : Schneider Wins Slalom Title

SAALBACH-HINTERGLEMM, Austria —
Olympic champion Vreni Schneider of Switzerland won the world title in the women’s slalom today, edging Natasa Bokal by a sixth of a second.
Schneider won a bronze medal Thursday in the combined event and is a two-time defending champion in the giant slalom that will be run Saturday. She had a winning time of 1 minute, 25.90 seconds for the two-heat slalom.
Bokal finished in 1:26.06, and the bronze medal went to Austria’s Ingrid Salvenmoser in 1:26.56.
