Infant’s Father Arraigned for Attempted Murder

A man who police said dangled his 4-month-old daughter from a balcony in Pasadena after a quarrel with his wife pleaded not guilty Friday to several charges, including attempted murder. Rudolfo Regalado, 31, was arrested on Dec. 22 after firefighters grabbed the child from her father’s arms as Regalado stood on a third-floor balcony and threatened to jump.

“It was one of the most dramatic things I’ve ever seen,” said Mario Franchini, a neighbor who watched as firefighter Ron Pearlman leaned over the railing and grabbed the sobbing child.

Pearlman came perilously close to falling, but a police officer held onto him and pulled him and the baby to safety, authorities said. Regalado was charged with attempted murder, child abuse, corporal injury to his spouse and assault with great bodily injury.
