Pernilla Wiberg became Sweden’s first female world skiing champion by winning the giant slalom in the World Championships at Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria. The best previous Swedish result was a slalom bronze medal in 1954 by Sarah Thomasson.
Eva Twardokens of the United States finished fifth.
