USD Women Set Scoring Mark on Victory Over Portland
The University of San Diego women’s basketball team set a school record for points in a game, trouncing Portland, 104-64, Saturday at the USD Sports Center.
It was also USD’s biggest rout ever, its sixth victory in a row this season and ninth of 10 as the Toreras (12-9, 7-1) remained a game behind first-place Santa Clara in the West Coast Conference.
Chris Enger led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Chato Platero added a career-high 16 points, Christi English 14 and Debbie Gollnick and Angie Straub 13 apiece.
USD shot 58% from the field, Portland 37%. Portland also turned the ball over 29 times, including 18 in the first half, as USD built a 53-31 lead.
Martha Sheldon led the Pilots (6-15, 0-8) with 28 points.
The previous single-game record for points was 93, against Idaho State in 1986-87.
