COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Valley Women Continue Solid Play
What a difference a year doesn’t make. Valley College, which last year tied for the Western State Conference women’s basketball title and advanced to the state semifinals, is back on the rampage this season.
Saturday night, the Monarchs improved to 24-4 overall and 5-1 in WSC Southern Division play by defeating host Canyons, 76-66.
Canyons (13-14, 2-4), which advanced to the state quarterfinals a year ago, has fallen on hard times. But the Cougars hung tough against Valley, trailing just 39-36 at halftime.
However, Canyons committed 15 second-half turnovers and went 5 1/2 minutes without a basket late in the game. Tisa Rush led Valley with 22 points and Katina Mines added 16 points and nine rebounds.
Kim Posey led Canyons with 26 points and 15 rebounds.
