Early in Hernandez’s article are the words: “His vow of celibacy has come into question, and he anguishes over the possibility that innuendo will undermine his life’s work.”
I suggest that the innuendo is that the HIV infection came from homosexual activity. It would seem for too many that HIV infection is still a gay disease and that it is only spread through male homosexual activity.
The time has long passed when we should have realized that here we have a disease involving men, women and children, and it can be spread through sexual activity and dirty needles in Africa, a Central American refugee camp, in Poland or on the streets of the U.S.A.
