Tenant Slightly Hurt in Apartment House Fire
A fire early Monday caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to a North Hollywood apartment building and slightly injured a tenant, who was taken to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire, which broke out in a second-floor apartment at 11815 Gilmore St., was under investigation, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Pat Marek said.
Firefighters called to the two-story, 50-unit complex about 1:20 a.m. put out the flames within 20 minutes, Marek said.
All tenants were evacuated but only one unit was damaged, he said.
Building manager Barbara Postier said the injured tenant, whom she declined to identify, had just returned home and discovered the fire as it was starting in his apartment.
The man was taken to Medical Center of North Hollywood suffering from smoke inhalation but refused treatment, hospital spokeswoman Sherry Reese said.
