DESERT STORM: DAY 21 : Political
Iraq cut diplomatic ties with the United States and its major Persian Gulf War allies--Britain, France, Egypt, Italy and Saudi Arabia. Baghdad Radio urged other Arab and Muslim governments to follow its lead, saying Iraq wants to resolve the crisis within an Arab framework and free from foreign influence. The radio also accused President Bush and his allies of trying to bomb Iraq “out of the 20th Century.”
* Secretary of State James A. Baker III told Congress that the task of ousting Iraq from Kuwait is “formidable” and that Saddam Hussein’s regime is not a third-rate military power.
