Rivals Get Closer to Pyewacket in Puerto Vallarta Race
Three other yachts had caught up to early leader Pyewacket by Tuesday in the 11th biennial race from Marina del Rey to Puerto Vallarta, and there were strong prospects of a close finish, probably Thursday.
There will be no record, but with 333 miles to go, Pyewacket, Roy E. Disney’s Santa Cruz 70 representing the California Yacht Club, was under strong challenges by Silver Bullet, of the Waikiki YC; and Blondie and Taxi Dancer, both of the Long Beach YC.
At sunset, the fleet was scattered between Cabo San Lucas and Magdalena Bay. Winds were still out of the northwest at 13 knots and seas were calm.
