Spectrum News Network, a controversial cable news program geared for gays and lesbians, will no longer be carried by Comcast Cablevision, which serves Newport Beach, Corona del Mar and Seal Beach.

Comcast general manager David Barford said Wednesday that his company has received complaints about the program from viewers but declined further comment.

The announcement came one day after Spectrum News producer K. Bradley Hudson won an apparent victory in Orange, where an official said the Community Video Advisory Board will probably drop a proposal that all programs be submitted for review two weeks before their air dates. Hudson had argued that a two-week review period would have rendered his news show useless.

Hudson said Wednesday that Comcast is discriminating against him and that he may take legal action.

“We feel like we’re being singled out for discrimination,” Hudson said. “I don’t think they’d do this to another minority group they’d received complaints about, but they feel it’s acceptable to discriminate against gays and lesbians.”

He said he is investigating whether Comcast, which has been selling him air time since November, may legally refuse to carry the program because of its content.

Hudson said Comcast officials would not tell him how many complaints they had received about Spectrum News, which has also drawn complaints from viewers in Orange.
