‘Cosby’ Draws 5 People’s Choice Nominations

Television’s popular Huxtable clan garnered nominations in five categories of the 17th Annual People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

“The Cosby Show” landed a nomination as favorite comedy series, and star Bill Cosby was voted a contender for top male television performer and all-around male entertainer.

“Cosby” co-star Phylicia Rashad, who plays Clair Huxtable, was nominated for female TV performer. Raven Symone, who plays Olivia, was nominated in the young television performer category.

The awards will be presented March 11 during a show broadcast by CBS.

The nominations represent the results of a Gallup Organization sample in which those questioned could vote for whomever they wished.

Another poll, now under way, asks those polled to choose between the nominees.

Male performer: Bill Cosby, Ted Danson, Tom Selleck.

Female performer: Kirstie Alley, Candice Bergen, Phylicia Rashad.

Male performer in a new series: James Earl Jones, Burt Reynolds, Will Smith.
